El-P & Killer Mike are doing an album together!

El producto & Mike Bigga are busy at work on a full length LP called “R.A.P. (Rebellious African People) Music”, and they will be releasing it through Adult Swim. The project will also feature production and guest appearances from a few other so-called “underground” producers and emcees, but have not announced any names yet. A snippet is floating around the nets, featuring mike rhyming over a beat that is very “el-p”, however no word yet has been given regarding if El-P will be coming out from behind the boards to pick up the mic. Details as they become available.

Raekwon – Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang set for release…

“Shaolin Vs Wu-Tang is done”, according to the Chef himself. He went on explain, “It’s coming out in March. It’s fire!”. The project is set to be released on Rae’s Ice H20 imprint, so expect to see cameos and production from the official chef weed carriers. “Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang” will see a CD release worldwide via a distribution deal with EMI, who helped the Wu-Tang swordsman climb back to the top of the hip hop world in 2010.

Sunspot Jonz (of Living Legends) announces new album…

“Galaxy of Dreams” is the title, rumored to be a 2 part album. It’s slated for release Jan. 4th via Outhouse Records, the imprint SJ and Luckyiam started almost 20 years ago (has it been that long?), releasing independent Mystik Journeymen tapes and LPs.

A Plus speaks on Souls of Mischief / Pharcyde LP

A Plus, of the mighty Hieroglyphics & Souls of Mischief, took to Facebook to discuss a long-delayed super group LP between Souls and The Pharcyde. The Oakland emcee suggested: “Someone start a petition for Souls and Pharcyde to release this album.”. While they released a 12″ as Almighty Mighty Pythons in the early 2000′s, the supposed LP in the works never showed up.
A Plus went on to speak about working on the album: “If I remember correctly we recorded about 11 strong songs. Even a few with [on again-off again Pharcyde member SlimKid] Tre before he bounced. Dope shit y’all! Still ain’t COMPLETELY sure why it never dropped. It’s actually been more than six years hasn’t it? So long that I forgot…” The Hiero MC went on to give his take on how the project should be released: “I think it’s cool as is, instead of trying to update it. That time and vibe can’t be duplicated. Souls and Pharcyde fans will appreciate that.” For years, the project has been a hip hop lovers wet-dream, and who knows, maybe it will finally materialize after all these years.

More on this story as it develops…

Madlib announces new LP “Low Budget Hi-Fi Music”

It’s called Lowbudget High-Fi Music and it s a interesting look back at the Madlib Medicine Show and a prelude of what is to come in the 12th, 13th and maybe 9th releases in the series. All of the regular Madlib collaborators MED, Guilty Simpson, Strong Arm Steady are represented here with exclusive tracks. Karriem Riggins pops in for a Supreme Team interlude, as does A.G. Madlib digs out a Jaylib-era track that was earmarked for the never-realized second album and, of course, interludes, outerludes and probably queludes abound.

Outkast’s Big Boi announces plans for new LP

According to Big Boi himself: “…this all goes back to funk. Matter of fact my next album is Daddy Fat Dax: Soul Funk Crusader. You just got to keep it funky, keep the music free-flowing with no boundaries and give it all you got. You got to make it wholeheartedly. With the climate of music now there’s not a lot of depth to it, so with us we like to put layers and layers of funk on top of each other to make that monster groove. And do whatever it takes to do that…

Rza lets another new one out of the bag during the lead up to “The Rebirth Tour”. The whole clan is said to be participating in the December tour (which we reported on last week), but rumors are already spreading that Rza will not be hitting the road with the clan, due to “prior business engagements”…More news as it comes.
